Get the story in your ears and hear what the rune stones at Klebæk Høje, Læborg and Bække tell us about the very earliest rulers in Denmark.

Out to today's Hærvej route north and south of Bække, there are still - as there were also in the time of the original Hærvej - three distinctive rune stones. It is by no means a coincidence and they had a very special task. It is also no coincidence that they were made by the same runic carvers: Ravnunge Thue. It is remarkable that his name is on three rune stones and that they are connected to Queen Thyra in Jelling and to the great gold treasure from the Viking Age, which was found in 2015

.

In the Ancient Road audio story here you will hear various explanations and interpretations of the three rune stones' meaning - not just locally but in the very earliest Danish history. The audio narrative consists of a conversation with an archaeologist, a storyteller, a valkyrie singer and a reading of runic inscriptions in Old Norse and lasts one hour. The story is only available in Danish.

How to find the audio story
You can find the audio story about the rune stones along the Ancient Road at Bække in the VisitVejen App. You can download it for free where you usually download apps for your mobile phone.

The audio narration in the app does not have its own url or address that we can link to. Therefore, in the app, you must select the main menu item The Great Hiking Routes, and then the Ancient Road. Next, you get a number of menu items that are about facilities and experiences along the Ancient Road. Here you choose Audio Stories and then Hærvejknudepunkt Bække. The audio stories can be heard both while you are walking on the Ancient Road - or  anywhere also at home in your living room. The course of the story is not dependent on you being out on the route.
